United Way of Greater Portland announced that since the launch of its volunteer website on Friday, June 14, over 700 individuals submitted applications to volunteer to support those seeking asylum in Portland.
“The outpouring of support from the community is remarkable,” said Liz Cotter Schlax, President & CEO, United Way of Greater Portland. “We cannot thank the volunteers enough for raising their hands in support of our community.”

Volunteer to Support Families at the Expo Shelter

Portland has received more than 150 asylum seekers over the past few days (who started their journey from several African countries, traveled through South America, and entered through the Southern US Border). They are not yet eligible for state and federal aid. Portland family shelters have exceeded capacity. Please use this form to express interest in volunteering at the City’s temporary shelter.
