United Way of Greater Portland takes our role as steward of donor money very seriously. We engage community volunteers to oversee every aspect of our management and financial systems to ensure that we operate at the highest levels of professionalism and excellence. We also submit to an annual independent audit to affirm continued financial responsibility and accountability to inspire trust and confidence in all our stakeholders.
Our Board of Directors oversees the management of United Way of Greater Portland. Our Board and Finance Committee, comprised of volunteers, review and approve our annual budget and financial statements, which include campaign fundraising results, community investments and operating expenses. Our financial statements are audited annually by a nationally recognized accounting firm, which certifies that its financial statements are in full compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
The Power of the Collective
Over the years, United Way has evolved from its roots as a fundraising organization to a critical community convener that mobilizes local partners, including businesses, community leaders, public officials, and community residents, to expand opportunities for people to succeed. These collaborations recognize the power of the collective: that organizations coming together around a common agenda – with shared goals, strategies, data, and guiding principles – are capable of achieving real and lasting population-level impact.
