The following policies apply to www.unitedwaygp.org
and all other web sites owned and operated by the
United Way of Greater Portland.
The United Way of Greater Portland
is committed to protecting your privacy. Except
as described below, no personal information is shared,
sold, rented or traded to third parties.
We automatically collect and/or
track the following information from visitors to our
web site, and persons who communicate with United
Way via e-mail: (1) e-mail address (if we receive
an e-mail communication); (2) home server domain name;
(3) information knowingly provided by visitors in
on-line forms, registration forms and surveys; and
(4) aggregate/user-specific information on which web
pages visitors access. "Personally identifiable
information" is information about a natural person
that is readily identifiable to that specific individual.
It includes, for example a person's name, street address,
e-mail address, fax number, or telephone number. We
will not collect any personally identifiable information
about you through our web site, unless you voluntarily
use our site to make a donation or pledge, send us
an e-mail message, participate in a survey, or fill
out and send an on-line form.
If you choose to contribute
to the United Way of Greater Portland via the Internet
you must complete an on-line pledge form (ePledge).
Our pledge form asks you to provide us with your
name, address, zip code, e-mail address, pledge
amount, pledge type (credit card or direct bill),
and, if applicable, information directing your pledge
be used in a targeted service area or paid to a
specified agency. If you choose to pay for your
gift by credit card, you must provide your credit
card type, credit card number, billing address,
and expiration date.
If your employer has elected
to host an ePledge campaign, you will be asked to
complete an on-line pledge form providing the information
noted above. However, in addition to the option
of paying for your gift by credit card or direct
bill, you also have the option of paying for your
gift by cash or payroll deduction. If you participate
in an employer sponsored ePledge campaign, we will
also provide the information we collect to you employer.
As with most on-line purchases, the United Way of
Greater Portland employs security measures to ensure
safeguard your information is safeguarded (see “security”
below).
The information we collect is
used to for billing purposes, to complete your donation
and for future communications. Unless you instruct
us not to, we will provide the agency you have designated
(if applicable) to receive your contribution with
your name, address, and the amount pledged so they
may acknowledge your gift and communicate with you
directly. We may also provide the designated agency
with your e-mail address.
Your e-mail address may also be used
to send you information related to your giving or
volunteer activities or to give you information
relative to your specified interests or agencies.
You will always have the option to unsubscribe to
future e-mails (see “opt-out right”
below).
We may share the information
we collect with other charitable organizations as
described above. We may also provide information
to other entities that need to have access to such
information in connection with our processing your
contribution (such as your employer for employer
sponsored ePledge campaigns), credit card processing
companies or other service providers). We also reserve
the right to release information as required by
any governmental or law enforcement agency or under
a court order issued by a court of competent jurisdiction.
We have established and maintain
security standards and procedures to protect our
users’ information. When you submit personally
identifying information via the web site, your information
is protected both on-line and off-line. We have
installed a number of measures to protect the confidentiality
of your personally identifying information.
For your convenience, we provide
a link to VolunteerMaine.org,
a web based volunteer matching application, which
is administered by a third party. The United Way
of Greater Portland web site and the VolunteerMaine.org
web site provide additional links to other sites,
which are operated by third parties. We do not monitor
the privacy practices of these linked third party
web sites and do not exercise authority over such
web sites. We therefore assume no responsibility
for the data collection policies and procedures
of linked web sites, or for the content of such
web sites. If you choose to access a third party
web site linked to our site, do so at your own risk.
Donors who provide pledge information
via the on-line pledge form may opt out of having
their personal information used for future communication
or disclosed to third parties after the donation
is processed. To opt out, donors must contact the
United Way of Greater Portland via postal mail or
e-mail.
Donors who provide pledge information
via the web site on-line pledge form may modify,
correct, change, or update their personal records
by request via postal mail or e-mail. The United
Way of Greater Portland will send personal records
only to the e-mail or postal mail address on file
for the donor name associated with it.
The United Way of Greater Portland
does not attempt to collect personally identifying
information from children. Personally identifying
information sent to us, such as e-mail, which appears
to be from a child, is deleted. We cannot always
determine if a visitor to its web site or the sender
of an e-mail is a child.
The United Way of Greater Portland
reserves the right to change, amend, or update this
Privacy Policy at any time. If we do decide to change
our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes here
so that users can determine what information we
collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances
we disclose it. Continued use of our web site after
any posted change indicates your consent to our
use and disclosure of your information in accordance
with the changed, amended or updated Privacy Policy.
