Summer Champs

United Way Summer Champs is a scholarship program funded by the Libra Foundation that sends hundreds of 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders in Portland Public Schools to summer camps in Maine each year. With $400, $800 and $1,000 scholarships, students can attend up to three summer camps and experience everything from arts and music to sports and adventure.

2008 Important Dates

February      -     Enrollment Applications are available through Portland Public Schools

April 11th     -     Application Form #1 is due to your school's principal

May 9th        -     #2 Selection Form is due to Summer Champs (Kimberly Curry)

Scholarship Levels

Current 3rd Grade Students   -   $400.00

Current 4th Grade Students   -   $800.00

Current 5th Grade Students   -   $1,000.00

Current 6th Grade Students   -   $1,000.00

2008 Summer Champs Camp Fair

The 8th annual camp fair was held on Sunday, February 3rd and was attended by hundreds of parents and kids! Nearly 100 camps attended and visitors enjoyed rock climbing, magic demonstrations and visiting with the ponies and goats.

                

                

 

More About Summer Champs

Since 2001, over 9,000 kids have attended camps and built important new skills, gained self-confidence and independence, and developed friendships while experiencing summer in Maine in a while new way.

United Way of Greater Portland thanks the Libra Foundation for its generosity and for connecting kids with nature, the arts, music, sports and many other experiences that help kids grow into happy, motivated adults.
