CA$H Greater Portland
CA$H Greater Portland (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope), an initiative of United Way of Greater Portland, is a partnership of community leaders and industry experts working together to help empower individuals and families to achieve long-term financial stability. CA$H is a year-round resource, providing outreach and education about ways you can make the most of your money. We offer free tax preparation to qualified filers during tax season; help employers bring financial education tools to their employees; and educate hard-working families and individuals about programs in the community that can increase your income, reduce debt, and build savings.
Since 2004, CA$H Greater Portland’s free tax preparation events have provided $1.2 million in free tax preparation services, helped 6,077 individuals and families receive more than $10.9 million in federal and state income tax refunds, and apply for $3.2 million in federal Earned Income Tax Credits.
Help families find ways to make the most of their money
CA$H Greater Portland is looking for volunteers for its 2016 free tax preparation events. In addition to providing free tax preparation by IRS-certified volunteers, CA$H’s volunteer Asset Guides connect people to programs and services in the community that help them make the most of their money. The Asset Guides welcome clients to the event, guides them though the check-in process, and helps connect them to free community resources, classes, matched savings accounts and more. This volunteer opportunity includes a training session in January, then a commitment to attend at least four, four-hour shifts at the Portland (75 Washington Ave.) tax site. Shifts are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays from 4:45-9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. late January through April 15, 2016.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 207-699-0753.
