Individual Award Categories
The Meg Baxter Award, named in honor of Meg Baxter, President of United Way of Greater Portland from 1990-2010, celebrates an individual who has played a role in the long term success and viability of the United Way of Greater Portland. It honors an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the community, made a significant contribution to advancing United Way’s mission, and served as a dedicated volunteer, loyal donor and long-time friend.
The Bert Andrews Volunteer Award, named in memory of Carl D. (Bert) Andrews, a longtime United Way of Greater Portland volunteer and Board Chair (1994 – 1996), recognizes the contribution that volunteers make to the mission of United Way and the cause of caring for others. The award is presented to a United Way volunteer who best exhibits Bert’s spirit through his or her commitment, enthusiasm, caring and support in one or more of United Way’s focus areas of education, financial stability, and health.
The Individual Advocate Award will recognize an individual who speaks out on behalf of or educates others on issues in one or more of United Way’s focus areas of education, financial stability, and health.
Organizational Award Categories
The Give Award will recognize an organization* that demonstrates excellence, creativity, and generosity during the 2016 United Way of Greater Portland campaign.
The Advocate Award will recognize an organization* that speak out on behalf of or educates others on issues in one or more of United Way’s focus areas of education, financial stability, and health.
The Volunteer Award will recognize an organization* that dedicate time to an organization or organizations in the community to address United Way of Greater Portland’s focus areas of education, financial stability, and health.
The Spirit Award will recognize one organization that exemplifies community support through their exceptional overall partnerships with United Way. To be considered for the Spirit of Greater Portland award, please submit a nomination for your organization in all three categories (Give, Advocate, and Volunteer).
*Organization awards will be divided into categories based on number of employees: Up to 99 employees, 100-249 employees, and 250 or more employees.
