Did you know that free federal and state income tax preparation and financial education resources are available to Maine residents with household income under $57,000? CA$H Greater Portland, an initiative of United Way of Greater Portland, is a partnership of community leaders and industry experts empowering families and individuals to achieve financial stability. Since 2004, 4,632 households have saved $810,600 in tax preparation fees, applied for $8.24 million in federal and state tax refunds, and received $2.37 million in Earned Income Tax Credits through this United Way of Greater Portland program.
This year, there are two options for free filing:
- OPTION 1: File for free in person with an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer.
- Income qualification: 2012 household income less than $51,000. Call 874-1000 to schedule an appointment. ADA and interpreter accommodations available upon request.
- OPTION 2: File for free online. Go to www.myfreetaxes.com/maine.
- Income qualification: 2012 household income less than $57,000. Use of myfreetaxes.com/maine requires an active email address.

Deaf Tax Day: sponsored by Maine Center on Deafness and Goodwill Industries of Northern New England
An exclusive free tax preparation event for individuals who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing. Interpreters will be on-site (appointment required).
WHEN: Saturday, March 9, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
