UWGP VOLUNTEER READER TRAINING

Be part of Thrive2027 and help improve students’ reading proficiency! Did you know that children who do not read at grade level by the end of third grade are 4x more likely not to graduate from high school compared to children who are reading at grade level?

Join United Way of Greater Portland at the Westbrook Community Center from 9am-11am on Friday, October 27 to find out more about volunteering as a reader and learn simple tips and techniques to help kids learn to read.

Once trained, volunteers are encouraged to serve as readers on a regular basis with students at Westbrook elementary schools and/or join us for several special literacy events throughout the year.

For more information or to register for the training, please sign up online here or contact Karen Stephenson, kstephenson@unitedwaygp.org. Register by Friday, October 20.
